North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels is celebrating the remarkable volunteers who are the heart of
the organisation and the reason hundreds of residents can remain connected, supported and
independent as part of National Volunteer Week.

With more than 250 volunteers supporting over 800 clients across the region, North Shoalhaven
Meals on Wheels relies on an extraordinary community of people who generously give their time,
energy and care to others.

An important aspect of North Shoalhaven Meal on Wheels’ offerings is its ‘Meals Together’ program
which continues to play a vital role in strengthening community connections, bringing people
together in a welcoming environment where friendships are formed and maintained. Beyond sharing
a meal, the program provides social engagement, support and a sense of belonging for many
community members.

North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels Chair Luke Sikora said National Volunteer Week was an
opportunity to recognise the enormous contribution volunteers make every day.

“Our volunteers are the backbone of North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels and quite simply we could
not do what we do without them,” Mr Sikora said.

“Every day they deliver much more than meals. They deliver connection, companionship and care to
more than 800 people across our community.”

“For many of our clients, a volunteer visit can be the most important interaction of their day. The
impact of that human connection cannot be underestimated.”

Mr Sikora also acknowledged the organisation’s partnership with Scots College and the meaningful
contribution students make to the service and broader community.

“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Scots College and for the enthusiasm and
compassion shown by the students who volunteer with us,” he said.

“The students have a genuinely positive impact on our clients through the conversations they have
and the relationships they build. Equally, our clients have an important impact on the students by
sharing stories, experiences and perspectives that help foster understanding and community spirit.”

“It is a partnership that demonstrates the value of bringing generations together and shows how
volunteering benefits everyone involved.”

As National Volunteer Week is celebrated across the country, North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels
extends its gratitude to every volunteer who helps strengthen the community through their service
and commitment.
