Train passengers on the South Coast Line will get a boost in capacity with an extra 325 seats being added to selected weekday Mariyung services.
The first eight-car Mariyung set will hit the tracks across eight weekday services, marking a significant milestone in the staged introduction of the new trains.
The milestone is part of a staged program of infrastructure and station upgrades across the 41 stations on the South Coast Line, enabling progressively longer Mariyung trains to operate on the network.
Since the state-of-the-art Mariyung trains were introduced in April 2026, more than 2 million passenger journeys have been taken on the South Coast Line.
The Minns Labor Government has successfully delivered the Mariyungs into the Central Coast & Newcastle Line, Blue Mountains Line and South Coast Line, providing a world-class standard of intercity travel.
The procurement and delivery by the former Liberal-National government was late and over-budget, with major modifications needed including widening tunnels and extending platforms.
More Mariyungs will be added as they become available and the Oscars are gradually transitioned to suburban running.
The Mariyung fleet provides modern heating and air conditioning, spacious two-by-two seating with extra legroom, arm rests and tray tables, charging ports for mobile devices and dedicated spaces for luggage, prams and bicycles.
The trains also provide the highest level of accessibility across the Sydney Trains fleet, with dedicated wheelchair spaces, accessible toilets, priority seating, CCTV and enhanced customer information systems.
