Olympic champion Melinda Gainsford-Taylor AM launches Can Assist’s ‘CAN DO THE DISTANCE’ Challenge to raise funds for NSW country cancer patients. Mel grew up in country NSW and her mother battled cancer at just 26; Mel knows firsthand the challenges faced by country families facing cancer. From the long journey to treatment in Sydney, over 400km away, to the strain it placed on her family, she understands the unique difficulties rural communities face. Can Assist is a charity that understands that distance makes the cancer journey harder for country patients – harder to get diagnosed, harder to get to treatment, harder to recover. Can Assist is there to assist – any cancer, any age. Join Mel and sign up – decide what your challenge will be, register, set your target and encourage friends + family to join or to support your fundraising. Have fun! 100% of fundraising will go directly to NSW country cancer patients. www.candothedistance.org.au

Are you an experienced driver who can give an hour or more a week? Having a driver’s licence means better access to employment, education, training and social activities but not everyone in our community has a vehicle or a licensed family member who can mentor them for the required 120 hours of driving time. As a driver mentor you will have a real life-changing impact on the people you mentor. We need volunteers in Nowra, the Bay & Basin and Ulladulla who are fully licensed, with a good driving history, and available for a minimum of one hour per week to help learners gain on-road experience in different conditions. BCR Communities vehicles are supplied for the mentoring sessions. To find out more, phone 1300 222 748, email info@BCRcommunities.com or visit BCRcommunities.com
