Australia is a step closer to becoming an offshore wind power, with a landmark new offshore wind announcement touted to bring jobs and economic opportunities.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy Chris Bowen said six proposed regions for NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and WA that have world-class offshore wind potential.
The consultation process has opened for the proposed Commonwealth Offshore Wind Zone in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of the Illawarra region which stretches from Wombarra in the north to Kiama.
The consultation is open until 16 October 2023.
All community members, industries and businesses are strongly encouraged to participate and make sure their questions are answered and concerns are heard.
Within the Gilmore electorate, there will be two Community Information Sessions:
- Kiama – Wednesday 20 September 2023, 4pm-7pm, Kiama Leagues Club.
- Gerringong – Thursday 21 September 2023, 10am – 12pm, Gerringong Town Hall.
