The NSW Government is making progress on delivering an upgrade to Nowra East Public School with new artist impressions shared with the school community this week.

The project will include 11 new permanent classrooms, including three support classrooms and double the preschool capacity, allowing for an increased capacity of approximately 80 children per week.

The primary school will also get additional support teaching facilities, playground equipment and sensory play opportunities for support classes.

Air conditioning upgrades to existing classrooms and accessibility improvements are also part of the project.

The planning application, known as a Review of Environmental Factors (REF), is expected to be on public exhibition on the NSW Planning Portal in September.

When the exhibition period for the REF ends, responses will be reviewed and considered as part of the planning process.

Planning determinations and contract awards for construction are expected by late-2025.

Interested school community members attended an information drop-in session on 31 July.

The NSW Government has pledged to deliver a record $9 billion over four years for school infrastructure in the 2025-26 Budget, continuing the work of rebuilding public education in NSW.

This investment includes $2.6 billion that will be spent over the coming financial year alone, to deliver a record pipeline of new and upgraded schools to support growing communities across NSW.

South Coast MP Liza BUTLER said, “To meet the needs of the Nowra community, planning is also underway for a new public primary school in Worrigee. The site for the new public primary school is close to growing suburbs such as Worrigee and South Nowra.

“Importantly, every new public primary school is being delivered with a co-located public preschool, honouring the Government’s commitment to deliver 100 new public preschools by 2027,” she said.
