It is National Volunteer Week (19 – 25 May 2025), the week North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels has declared they are at capacity and are unable to accept additional clients without a large influx of new volunteers.

North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels has seen a dramatic increase in local seniors requiring
meals and support throughout the local community, with over 50 per cent growth experienced in the past 12 months, and the essential service has now reached capacity.

Largely supported by volunteers from Berry to Jervis Bay, North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels relies on the support of volunteer drivers and cooks.

New volunteers are desperately being sought to ensure the essential service is able to be provided to those who need nutritious meals and the support North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels offers.

Luke Sikora, Chair of North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels said, “Being unable to accept
additional clients is devastating for our hard-working staff and extraordinary volunteers, and goes against the core of our mission to support people in our community, but the reality is we cannot continue without more help.

“Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organisation, with over 250 working tirelessly to produce and deliver meals from Berry to Jervis Bay.

“We have been growing exponentially over the past few years, but unfortunately our volunteer numbers have not kept up with the level of service we have been providing each and every day.

“We have a large number of volunteer roles available, and we are desperate for more help.
