Kiama Council is seeking public submissions for its draft Kiama Coastal Management Program (2024-2034).

The draft Kiama Coastal Management Program (CMP) is the result of four year’s work to develop a practical, coordinated and science-based approach to managing our open coast.

Director Planning, Environment and Communities, Jessica Rippon, said extensive time and effort had been invested to deliver a CMP in collaboration with our community.

“I’m proud to present this draft CMP for our community to review and thank all the individuals, community organisations and government agencies who have been involved in its development since 2019,” Ms Rippon said.

“We have an amazing coastline from Minnamurra in the north to Seven Mile Beach in the south, and now we have a management program to help us make sure it stays that way.”

Ms Rippon said the final CMP would guide Council, other agencies and organisations and our community when it came to managing and enjoying our beautiful beaches and headlands over the next decade.

“CMPs allow us to identify and manage coastal hazards, preserve habitats and address environmental issues which improves the amenity of our coast.”

“The CMP will also help with improving the ability of our communities and coastline to withstand future challenges such as those presented by climate change.”
