Member for Kiama Gareth Ward has moved a motion in Parliament calling on the NSW Labor Government to deliver promised funding to two Shoalhaven Homelessness providers.
Salt Care in Nowra and Safe Waters in Ulladulla may have to close their doors and leave hundreds of rough sleepers without accommodation should the government not honour its commitment.
Given the housing and domestic violence crisis, Mr Ward says it is totally unacceptable for Labor not to come good on a promise to these services.
“To their credit, the NSW Government said it would fund Salt Care and Safe Waters Shoalhaven. However, Labor have failed to deliver funding promised to these services following the NSW State election,” Mr Ward said.
“These services are at risk of closure should Labor not honour its promise and come good on the funding guarantee it gave.
“Breaking a promise is always unacceptable. But breaking a promise to homelessness services requires a special kind of heartlessness, particularly as we come into winter.
“Whilst I do acknowledge and thank the government for providing one year of funding for these vital and lifesaving services, the Minister for Homelessness promised these services additional funding and it’s this funding that still hangs in the balance.
“This government is keen on reports, committees, and inquiries. We don’t need the fluff; we just need the money so these services can get on with what they do best,” Mr Ward concluded.
