Shoalhaven residents can help celebrate the city’s parks and open spaces by taking part in Parks Week activities early next month.

Parks Week, 2-10 March, will see hundreds of organisations across Australian and New Zealand holding events to celebrate the vital role parks play in creating liveable cities and thriving communities.

Locally, events will be held at the Boongaree Nature Play Park in Berry, White Sands Park in Huskisson and the Mollymook Beach Reserve. The events are being organised by Shoalhaven City Council through Shoalhaven Swim Sport Fitness.

Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley said the Shoalhaven was home to some of the most beautiful parks and reserves on the South Coast.

“I think most people would agree that spending time in our parks and open spaces has a very positive impact on our well-being,” Cr Findley said.

“There’s no better time to get outside and enjoy what we have on offer right here in our own backyard,” she said.

Local Parks Week activities will include:

  • Free fitness outdoor bootcamps mixing calisthenics and body weight exercises with cardio and strength training. Held at White Sands Park, Huskisson, Saturday 2 March and Saturday 9 March.
  • Paint ‘N Pour sessions for artists of all ages and all skills levels to unleash their inner creativity and craft a beautiful piece of art. Held at Boongaree Nature Play Park, Berry on Monday 4 March and Wednesday 6 March. Participants under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets $15 per participant.
  • Free yoga session based on the ancient practice of Vinyasa yoga and focusing on balance, strength, flexibility and power by flowing. Suitable for beginner and advanced yoga levels. Held at Mollymook Beach Reserve on Wednesday 6 March.
