Berry draft development and heritage controls

Shoalhaven residents are invited to provide feedback on proposed new planning and heritage provisions for the township of Berry.

The draft Development Control Plan (DCP) Chapter for part of Berry (east of the Princes Highway) and the associated Planning Proposal to introduce a new Princess Street Heritage Conservation Area (HCA) and additional individual heritage items, are now on public exhibition.

“These proposals work to further recognise and protect the unique character and heritage of the historic township of Berry and will guide future development in the area,” said Mayor Patricia White.

“I encourage the community, and particularly owners and residents in Berry, to view these important documents to see the sites and properties that have been identified and to understand the broader proposal,” Cr White said.

“Any feedback provided will be considered carefully prior to finalisation of these documents, so it is critical you take this opportunity to have your say,” she said.

Council has been consulting with the community since December 2023 to investigate and prepare a new draft DCP Chapter for Berry and the related Planning Proposal.

The Planning Proposal, which identifies additional sites for heritage listing in the Local Environmental Plan (LEP) between the existing Queen Street and Berry Showground heritage conservation areas, received Gateway approval from the NSW Government in June, to proceed to public exhibition.

A pop-up information stand and drop-in information session providing more detail about the project will be held in Berry on Tuesday 19 August.
