Police have praised members of the public who went to the aid of those involved in a triple fatal head-on crash between Braidwood and Batemans Bay.

The collision between a Hyundai sedan and a hatchback occurred late on Monday afternoon on a 100km/per hour stretch of the Kings Highway at Monga.

A woman, a teenage girl and a man didn’t survive the collision despite the best efforts of other motorists and emergency services.

Highway Patrol Commander, Inspector Will Collins said it was very confronting to deal with.

“Obviously any scene of that nature is very distressing, not only for the emergency services who have to respond to it but also multiple members of the public who stopped to render aid to those people involved in the collision,” Inspector Collins said.

While both cars were travelling to or from Batemans Bay, police have revealed the victims were not from the Far South Coast.

“At this stage early on in the investigation, at this stage it appears as though the sedan has crossed onto the incorrect side of the road and struck the hatchback that was travelling eastbound,” Inspector Collins said.

“What caused that manoeuvre will form part of the police investigation,” he said.
