A 33-year-old man facing a raft of domestic violence related charges including sending numerous ‘threat to kill’ text messages has been released on bail despite allegedly hiding in Queensland for two years.
Batemans Bay Local Court has been told Zane Francis Vidler has been in jail for the past nine days with his initial release application rejected by the Bail Review Court.
His lawyer Joshua Adam argued there had been a substantial change including his ability to now supply a residential address.
Police Prosecutor David Weaver strongly opposed the bid for freedom citing risk to the alleged victim, community safety and concern he might flee interstate again.
He shared graphic details of just one of many alleged text messages sent to his ex-girlfriend.
Sergeant Weaver has told the court Vidler, from Bowral, had sent some horrific messages to the victim that are clearly designed to threaten the victim.
In one instance read out to the court, Vidler allegedly wrote “Go to the police slut. I’m going to kill you. You’ve done this to me.”
The court heard he had been hiding from NSW Police up in Queensland for the past two years and had only returned following the death of his mother.
But Judge Doug Dick granted Vidler strict conditional bail including he actively seek a place in a drug rehab facility, not go within 100km of Batemans Bay, live with his three sisters at Braemar and not leave the house without at least one of them and not use any electronic device without the supervision of one of the siblings.
His case will be mentioned again on November 2.
