Shoalhaven’s unsung heroes honoured

The men and women who run towards danger, protect our streets, rescue our families and quietly serve our nation will once again be celebrated, as the Shoalhaven Emergency Services Community Awards (SESCA) 2026 officially launch at the Shoalhaven Emergency Operations Centre.

Now in its eighth year, SESCA is the only combined awards program in the Shoalhaven that recognises police, emergency services and Australian Defence personnel together, both paid and volunteer, under one united banner of service.

Delivered through the combined efforts of the three local Rotary clubs, Rotary Club of Berry, Rotary Club of Milton-Ulladulla and Rotary Club of Nowra, the awards honour those who embody Rotary’s global motto, ‘Service Above Self.’

Phil Presgrave, Chairman of SESCA, said the Awards have grown into one of the most respected community recognition programs in the region since launching in 2019.

“These Awards exist for one simple reason, to shine a light on our unsung heroes. The people who turn up without hesitation, without applause, and often without recognition.”

“Since 2019, SESCA has become a powerful reminder that bravery, service and sacrifice live right here in our own streets.”

“We are calling on every resident, every business, every school and every community group in the Shoalhaven to nominate.”

“You don’t need to wear a uniform to nominate. You just need to have seen courage, commitment, compassion or service in action.”
