The Shoalhaven Mayor is on the front foot after a series of thefts from properties and vehicles in some of our coastal towns and villages.
Clr Patricia White said, I am concerned by this spate of crime that appears to be opportunistic, due to houses and cars being left unlocked.

“I am deeply disappointed this impropriety is impacting on the enjoyment, relaxation and recreation of locals and visitors in our community during the holiday season and I would like to encourage residents and those staying in Shoalhaven to remain vigilant and ensure personal belongings, properties and vehicles are secure at all times,” she said
Clr White advised, “For your own safety, do not confront anyone committing a crime — move to a safe place and contact police immediately. You can report any suspicious behaviour or criminal activity to police by phoning Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
There are some tips below to help you keep your belongings safe.
- Lock the windows and doors of your home, shed and vehicle
- Install security lighting around the perimeter of your property
- Consider using light timers for when you’re not at home
- Install a home alarm system
- Keep an inventory of valuable property and record identifiers (eg. serial number)
- If you’re going away, ask trust friends or neighbour to clear your letterbox.
