Wingecarribee Shire Council has secured $1.15 million through the NSW Government’s Safer Cities: Her Way 2 program to deliver projects that aim to create safer, more accessible and inclusive public spaces across the Shire.
Delivered in partnership with Transport for NSW, the Safer Cities: Her Way 2 grant
program aims to improve perceptions of safety for everyone as they move through public spaces and transport precincts, with a particular focus on the experiences of women, girls and gender-diverse people.
The grant program has two tiers of funding for public space and infrastructure
improvements and the delivery of strategic projects.
Council has received funding through two Tiers to deliver initiatives that aim to enhance the connectivity and experience across the Bowral Town Centre. This includes $1 million to deliver public space and infrastructure improvements through the Walk with Her project, and $150,000 to develop a strategic place plan through Walk with Her: Our Precinct, Our Place.
Over the next two years, Council will work with the community to co-design and identify initiatives in the Bowral Town Centre, which could include shared pedestrian spaces, streetscape beautification, public art, pop-up activations and other place improvements that respond to local insights.
