A Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crew from the Central Coast has claimed bragging rights after taking out the NSW Regional Firefighter Championships in Goulburn over the weekend.
The Wyong team had to come from behind on the second day of the event held at North Park over August 1-2 to narrowly beat a formidable Country Fire Authority (CFA) crew from Echuca in Victoria.
A FRNSW team from Wangi Wangi came in third place among the 22 crews to round out the podium.
The best from the Shoalhaven was the Ulladulla crew that finished fifth.
Fire and Rescue crews from Moss Vale, Mittagong, Crookwell, Bundanoon and Goulburn also took part.
Events included ‘Urban Pumper Collector and Ladder’, ‘Booster Valve and High-Rise Bag, and ‘Ladder Practice’, each replicating real-life scenarios faced by firefighters.
The two-day competition was witnessed by crowds of local onlookers, as well as FRNSW Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell, FRNSW Deputy Commissioner Michael Morris and FRNSW Assistant Commissioner Steven Hayes.
Firefighters were also on hand to provide members of the public with winter fire safety advice, demonstrate equipment and answer questions during the most dangerous time of the year for house fires.
The competing brigades can now look towards the State Championships to be held in Coffs Harbour in October.
