Help rewild the Mittagong Pool

September 4, 2025 8:15 am in by

Wingecarribee Shire Council is inviting the community to share thoughts on the future
of the old Mittagong Pool site, with consultation now open to help shape a masterplan to rewild the area into a natural swimming and recreation space, subject to external funding.

Earlier this year, residents shared their memories of the pool in celebration of its legacy;
from learning to swim and childhood adventures, to water polo matches and daring leaps from the old diving board.

Council is now seeking feedback to inform the draft masterplan and help bring the vision to life as a year-round destination to explore, relax, and enjoy nature safely and
sustainably.

Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick encouraged community members to share their ideas for what
would make this space truly unique.

“Mittagong Pool holds a special place in the hearts of so many in our Shire, and this next
stage is about building on those memories while creating new ones that reflect the
community’s vision for the site” he said.

The rewilded site will require a weir to create a swimmable area and would also include
supporting infrastructure such as parking and public amenities. Beyond this, the site offers a world of possibilities. It could feature a natural river plunge design, walking and bike tracks, picnic and seating areas, viewing platforms, spaces for children to play, natural plantings and ecosystems, and creative reuse of existing amenities.

Following extensive community engagement, the draft masterplan will be prepared in
2025/26 utilising existing operational budgets. It will feature design opportunities and
constraints, indicative design images and a concept plan. As part of the 2026/27 capital
program, $110,000 is budgeted for detailed design and environmental approvals.

An informal community drop-in session is being held and an Illustrator will be there to see your ideas brought to life.
