Firefighters to compete in multi-agency road rescue competition

A crew of six firefighters from the Southern Highlands will be testing their road crash rescue skills at the State Road Crash Rescue Challenge next month at Coffs Harbour.

55 cars will be crushed by an excavator to replicate different car crash scenarios.

The team will have just 30 minutes to carry out its tasks under the watchful eye of competition judges.

Inspector Bruce Dowling said attending road crashes can often be the most challenging part of the job.

“There’s a lot of training that goes into preparing yourself for road rescues,

“We come across some traumatic incidents, but that’s something we try to help each other with,”Inspector Dowling said.
