A new chapter in community waste education has begun with the official opening of The Education Hub at the Wingecarribee Upcycle Centre.

Located within the Resource Recovery Centre in Moss Vale, The Upcycle Education Hub will support waste education, recycling awareness and waste avoidance initiatives across the Wingecarribee Shire.

The Education Hub will provide a dedicated space for workshops, school visits, community engagement activities and educational programs.

This project is an initiative of the NSW Environment Protection Authority under the NSW Government’s Waste and Sustainable Materials Strategy, and is funded from the waste levy.

Wingecarribee Shire Council Mayor Jesse Fitzpatrick said The Education Hub is an
investment in helping the community make informed choices about waste and recycling.

“Education plays an important role in reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill. This new, welcoming space gives residents, schools and community groups the opportunity to learn simple, practical ways to recycle better, avoid unnecessary waste and make the most of the resources we already have.”

The Education Hub complements the Upcycle Centre, which gives reusable household
items a second life by making them available for purchase rather than disposal.

Together, the two facilities support Council’s commitment to reducing waste, improving
resource recovery and advancing a circular economy, in line with the Wingecarribee 2035 Community Strategic Plan.
