How's this for an absolutely stellar initiative to help kids around the world? Lids4Kids an an organization that collects plastic lids from soft drink bottles and milk cartons and turns them into prosthetic limbs for children all over the world suffering from amputations (from landmines, disease etc.) or disability. The lids are melted down and 3D-printed into artificial limbs and I can't believe this hasn't been thought of before! Illawarra & South Coast Coordinator Simone Danby joined me on the show today to give us all of the details.
What a way to take something that is having such a devastating environmental impact and turn it into such a positive outcome for so many around the world!
It's so easy for you to be involved too. There's a huge number of collection locations across the Shoalhaven where you can drop off your plastic lids. These are sent to Victoria where all of the life-changing magic happens.
For more information, you can check out the Lids4Kids Illawarra & South Coast Facebook group. There's heaps of info there and plenty of people who are very willing to answer any questions you may have. Plus, there's the ever-growing list of collection locations as well.
Get collecting and help to give so much to kids doing it tough around the world, all while helping the environment at the same time!
