Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove and Lady Cosgrove have visited the Shoalhaven and met with community members and business leaders at the Entertainment Centre.
The Governor General took his time meeting with people and made special mention of the dairy farmers who are doing it tough as a result of the draught.
"In here when you talk to people, they're all into awareness of that and the sorts of things that can be done to help people on the land", Sir Cosgrove said.
"I was so moved by GJ Gardner's Generosity in providing a house to be auctioned with the proceeds to go to variety", he said.
"Now to me, that's muscular philanthropy".
An ecstatic Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley says she wanted to make it a memorable occasion for the Excellency.
"We thought that the best way to do it was to just really make it as casual and as friendly as possible, because for people in the top jobs in Australia, they often don't get that chance to kind of let their hair down, loosen the tie a little and really get in and meet people", Councillor Findley said.
