Ahead of Valentine's Day, locals particularly older Shoalhaven residents are being warned to look out for romance scams with latest figures showing they're still costing us millions of dollars each year.
The ANZ says it's already conducted 119 investigations related to $3.7 million in the first six months of opening a dedicated scams unit.
Catriona Noble from the bank says scammers will use a range of heartless tricks to fleece victims out of their money.
"Make sure you never provide your financial details or send funds to someone that you've met online", Ms Noble said.
"Also, be cautious when sending personal pictures or videos, especially if you haven't met them before", she said.
"These can sometimes come back at you and be used as blackmail".
