The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District maintains its priority is to ensure it's able to run its four Emergency Departments at full capacity during the COVID crisis.
There are currently 14,247 active COVID cases across the district with 74 people being treated in hospital for COVID-19.
The LHD has extended the temporary closure of the sub-acute mental health unit at Shoalhaven Hospital and the Bulli Hospital Urgent Care Centre and until mid-February.
The Nowra unit is being used as COVID special health accommodation facility.
"Some staff usually providing care in the Sub Acute facility will continue to work within the area's Acute Community Mental Health Teams, where demand has increased since the start of the pandemic.
Acute Mental Health Services remain in place across the District.
Medical staff from Bulli are supporting the district's emergency teams.
"There will be no impact on inpatient services at Bulli Hospital and medical care for inpatients will continue as usual," an ISLHD statement said.
"The District has increased the capacity of our community teams to ensure care can be provided to people needing support in their homes by virtual care, or face to face where required and safe to do so," the statement said.
