It's an under reported crime and exact statistics are impossible to gauge , but drink spiking is believed to occur anywhere from 3,000 to 4,000 times per year in Australia.

According to the NSW-based Rape and Domestic Violence Services Australia, there has been a spike in calls to its hot line since NSW came out of lockdown.

The victims of drink spiking are often the target of violence or sexual assault.

Statistics suggest one in three drink spiking cases involve sexual assault and most victims are women.

The NSW South Coast Police Facebook page has highlighted the crime of drink spiking in the lead-up to the Christmas New Year festive season.
