Shoalhaven clear, but Wollongong cases on the rise

While the Shoalhaven has had no new COVID cases for the past 12 days, numbers in the Wollongong Local Government Area are slowly increasing.

There were seven new cases in Wollongong during the 24 hours to 8pm on Monday, with six of them linked to known cases.

They bring the number of cases ion the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District since June to 2513.

Across the state there were 173 new cases reported in the 24-hour period, and two deaths.

They were a woman in her 80s from Sydney's inner west and a man in his 80s from south west Sydney.

Both were unvaccinated.

There are currently 196 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospitals across NSW, with 34 people in intensive care, 13 of whom require ventilation.
