A man is due before Nowra Local Court charged with seven offences after his arrest at Sanctuary Point.

Police were patrolling Idlewild Avenue on Tuesday evening when saw a motorcyclist riding on the footpath without a helmet.

It's alleged he was also carrying a long object wrapped in fabric.

Officers pulled him over to speak with him and noticed the 26-year-old no longer had the object with him.

Police were approached by a man who handed them the long object that had been discarded nearby, which was found to be an air rifle.

Further checks revealed the motorcycle was unregistered and the man was allegedly in possession of methylamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The alleged offender was taken to Nowra Police station and charged with seven offences including not keep a firearm safely, possess an unregistered firearm in a public place, and possess a prohibited drug.
