Fireworks displays in the Shoalhaven will go ahead as normal this News Year Eve, despite a notice of motion at Tuesday's council meeting to have laser shows instead.
Greens Councillors Nina Di Giglio spoke about a number of health and environment concerns.
However the general consensus among the majority was that the benefits far out weighed any health and environmental concerns.
Last year's event was cancelled due to the bushfires and Councillor Pakes says alot of businesses are relying on the extra visitation the fireworks bring to the city.
He thinks the notice of motion was a little distasteful given the current times we're living in.
