The Rural Fire Service has now issued an emergency warning for the Currowan Fire which has now burnt out more than 29,000 hectares.

The fire is currently burning in an east and north-easterly direction, towards the area of Termeil, Bawley Point and Pebbly Beach.

Meantime the southern edge of the fire has been burning towards East Lynne and Benandarah and has crossed the Princes Highway and is burning near Mt Agony Road.

The RFS says crews are working in and around Depot Beach and North Durras and have also been defending properties in the Bundle Hill area.

Firefighters remain on standby at Kioloa to provide property protection if required.

We're being told the blaze crossed the Princes Highway in a number of locations north of East Lynne and south of Termeil.

The Princes Highway is currently closed between Burrell Lakes and the Kings Highway turnoff.
