An emergency warning has been issued for the bushfire in the Southern Shoalhaven.
The Rural Fire Service says the blaze at Currowan north west of Batemans Bay is once again out of control after being fanned by strong westerly winds.
It's spreading in an easterly direction and forced the closure of the Princes Highway between Turmeil and the Kings Highway turnoff.
Evacuation centres have been set up at Ulladulla and Batemans Bay and residents at Turmeil have been urged to leave.
The RFS says the blaze has so far destroyed more than 11,500 hectares of bush.
