At least a dozen Shoalhaven/South Coast schools have been identified as having friable or damaged asbestos.
They are part of more than a thousand schools in New South Wales revealed to have the potentially deadly material following an analysis of the Education Department's asbestos register.
Bomaderry High and Bermagui Public have friable asbestos which can crumble when touched.
Education Minister Sarah Mitchell has told a hearing the department has a plan in place to manage the asbestos risk across the states 2,200 public schools.
