On Friday at approximately 2:30pm Shoalhaven Heads RFS were called to West Nowra to back up Fire and Rescue at a bush fire and got to work blacking out the edges of the fire and mopping up any hot spots.
On their way back to the station they were re-directed to a grass fire on Parma Road.
They arrived to find a fast running fire front which they quickly went to work to bring under control, however their work wasn't done.
Friday's ferocious winds were pushing embers out of the main burnt out area onto unburned land creating spot fires.
They spent the next few hours mopping up and blacking out ANYTHING glowing or hot.
Meantime SES crews haven't had much rest either.. with numerous call outs across the Illawarra and Shoalhaven.
Kiama and Gerringong were among those dealing with the strong winds overnight.
Many jobs related to damaged roofs, fallen trees and several trampolines have also been blown away.
For emergency help in floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500, or if life-threatening call 000.
