Two men have been charged in connection with a serious altercation which allegedly took place in Nowra.
Around 3 o'clock yesterday morning, a 42 year old year old man was assaulted by a group of men armed with an axe.
The man began shouting and was joined by his 19 year old son, who was armed with a tomahawk.
The group managed to wrestle the tomahawk from the 19 year old and the man suffered lacerations to his face and back of his head.
He fled to a neighbour's house and called an Ambulance for his father.
The 42 year old was taken to Wollongong Hospital for surgery with multiple facial fractures and lacerations to his head and hand.
He was last listed as being in a serious but stable condition.
A 22 year old man was arrested a short time later and was eventually charged with affray and armed with intent.
He's been refused bail to appear before Nowra Local Court today.
Around 5pm yesterday, another 19 year old man, handed himself into Police.
He was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and also refused bail to appear in Nowra Local Court today.
