South Coast Correctional Officers return to work following strike action

South Coast Correctional Officers have returned to work after they walked off the job on Friday in support of their colleagues at the Goulburn Supermax.

A judge recently overturned a 20-month prison sentence for Bassam Hamzy who assaulted a prison officer in Goulburn in 2017.

Union members voted to strike amid frustration with a number of incidents where guards had been assaulted.

In response, the State Government has agreed to amend legislation if re-elected so offenders like Hamzy remain behind bars for as long as possible.
