A new 3D printing lab from an Australian company could help people with traumatic injuries to the head, skull or face.
The lab prints a plastic implant material that can augment bone and integrate into human tissue.
Opening in Melbourne on Thursday morning, Anatomics' lab would help people after traumatic accidents or aggressive tumour removals.
Implants are designed for each individual patient based on 3D CT scans and were malleable enough to allow surgeons to fit them to shape in the operating theatre.
Health Minister Greg Hunt, who will help open the facility on Thursday morning, said the lab would help improve surgical practice and enable the faster manufacturing of the implants.
