Debate over real birthplace


The birthplace of Mary Poppins is becoming a hot topic of debate.

Paul McShane from the the Southern Highlands Youth Arts Council appeared on Channel Seven's Sunrise program yesterday morning to argue his case.

He says the author PL Travers invented the character in Bowral as a bed time story for her younger sisters.

However Councillor Paul Truscott from the Frazer Coast Regional Council believes it's Maryborough in Queensland.

Her father was the local Bank Manager - in the story Mr. Banks was the Bank Manager
