Shoalhaven vaccination rate about to hit 95 percent

The Shoalhaven and Kiama communities are just shy of the 95 per cent fully vaccinated target, and should hit the benchmarks by the end of the week.

The latest figures released yesterday show the Shoalhaven is at 94.2 per cent fully vaccinated, and Kiama is at 94.3.

Shellharbour, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley have all passed the 95 per cent double jabbed benchmark.

NSW Premier Dominic Perottet promised more freedoms when the state reached 95 per cent fully vaccinated, and much of south-eastern NSW is already there.

Five of the 11 local government areas included in New figures show several local government areas included in the area covered by the south-eastern NSW primary health network, Coordinare, have already passed the 95 per cent mark.

Two weeks without a new case in Shoalhaven

The Shoalhaven has been two weeks with a new COVID case as NSW celebrates a day without a COVID-related death.

In the 24 hours to 8pm Wednesday there were just two new cases in the  Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District - one in the Wollongong Local Government Area and Shellharbour's first new case for 12 days.

The number of COVID patients being treated in the district's hospitals also fell to five.

Across the state there were 276 new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, bringing the total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 80,492.

There are currently 191 COVID-19 cases admitted to NSW hospitals, with 31 people in intensive care, 10 of whom require ventilation.

Health officials continue urging people to get tested if they have any flu-like symptoms, and to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Shoalhaven, Kiama, Shellharbour, Eurobodalla and most neighbouring areas have already passed the 95 per cent fully vaccinated benchmark for people aged 16 and over.

However Wollongong's vaccination rates continue to lag behind.

The number of younger people fully vaccinated is also rising.

Across the state, 81.1 per cent of the people aged 12 to 15 have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 75.9 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Vaccination milestone for the Highlands

The Wingecarribee Shire has reached a big milestone, with 95 per cent of the eligible population now fully vaccinated.

The Shoalhaven and Kiama local government areas have also reached 95 per cent.

But....Chairman of the Southern Highlands Division of General Practice Dr Vince Roche said we won't know if the figures exceed that.

"The Government only publishes figures 95 or better,

"I think we will do better than that, but we're not going to get told,''Dr Roche said.

Health authorities are now focusing on getting jabs for 12 to 16 year olds.

5 to 12 year olds will likely start being vaccinated some time in January or February of next year.
