He said, ” Police are now involved and the four unoccupied homes are now considered crime scenes.”

One of the Kinghorne Street properties targeted in the overnight attacks had also been set alight under suspicious circumstances on Friday of last week.

Fire Fighters from Shoalhaven and Nowra were backed up by crews from Berry and Kiama as fire after fire was reported through triple zero emergency calls.

Fire officials at this stage can’t say how each blaze was ignited, that is now subject of a Police inquiry with investigators sifting through the charred remains of the houses today.

Inspector Jones said, each premises was checked by fire fighters to ensure their was no-one inside which put their safety at risk.

He said, “Even though they are abandoned house, we always make the assumption someone could be inside, so they do have to go inside and investigate that.

“Often these houses are old and have asbestos which adds another level of complication for us.”

Inspector Jones said, “The damage was quite extensive to a number of those properties and they will remain off limits for some time.”

He said on all four occasions Fire Fighters did an excellent job to contain the fire, preventing it spreading to nearby homes.”

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Nowra Police.
